It’s almost that time of year! Art Basel is just around the corner and with it comes an influx of events in North Beach.
Boasted as one of the largest art fairs in the world, Art Basel will once again take up residence in the Miami Beach Convention Center. Officially scheduled December 3rd to the 6th, the growth of the fair each year results in an increasing number of independent events in the area, many taking place in North Beach all week long. We’ve dug around and put together a list of some of the best below; keep reading for the full scoop.
Art on Paper
Featuring 55 galleries exhibiting paper-based art, Art on Paper Miami’s inaugural debut comes fresh off the heels of Art on Paper New York’s accolades from The New York Times (it was dubbed a “Must See Show” of 2015) and a Time Out New York Critic’s Pick.

Miami Project
Returning for its fourth installment, Miami Project keeps a focus on modern and contemporary art. Last year’s fair saw a record attendance of over 25,000 and we’re sure this year’s showing will be anything short of impressive.

Satellite
Pioneered by former ‘SELECT Art Fair’ partner Brian Wheatley, Satellite is already building buzz due to it’s rather atypical setup. Instead of taking the traditional route, Satellite will take place throughout four different spaces located between 73rd and 75th streets. This is one fair we definitely don’t want to miss.

The North Beach Bandshell
As part of Satellite, Trans-Pecos, a live music venue in Queens, NY, will be cultivating a 5-day music series, aiming to integrate music and art. The lineup is yet to be announced, so check back here for more details, to be released soon.
Middlesticks and Spinning Night in Living Color by Elaine Buckholtz
Visual artist Elaine Buckholtz, known for working with a variety of mediums including sound, light and video, will have an installation on display inside The Deauville Beach Resort. Stop by The Jazz Club VIP Lounge to view this piece, incorporating a unique method of creating spun artwork by video taping photographic prints. For those trying to cram everything in, there will be a free shuttle service running between Art Basel at the Convention Center and all of the above mentioned events. So, leave the car at home, avoid those nasty headache-inducing traffic jams and hop in line for these complimentary shuttles. More information here.
