For the second year in a row, it’s time for Miami Beach residents and neighbors to get their Zumba on with the superheroes themed Zumbathon on Saturday July 30th at the North Shore Bandshell on 7275 Collins Ave.
Led by instructor Fernando Garcia, participants may partake in the Zumba lesson from 6:30 pm to 8 pm by just signing a waiver – free of charge. He is encouraging dancers to suit up as their favorite superheroes.
After signing the waiver, participants will be directed by the instructor Garcia, who has 30-plus years’ experience dancing and choreographing and has been a Zumba instructor since 2009. He uses his dance training in ballet, modern, jazz, and Caribbean to create a colorful mix sure to get your entire body moving and heart pumping as witnessed here.
“Everyone is going to get a taste of the latest dance moves to Bollywood, Hip-Hop, Reggaeton, Timba Cuban Salsa, Salsa Choke, and Cumbia from Colombia, hot Soca dance moves from the beautiful Caribbean islands, Brazilian Samba flavors, and of course our Rock N’ Roll hits to kick off our pride and love for America,” Garcia said.
On July 30th, partakers can expect eclectic international music and high energy fun.
“Zumba is an amazing cardio dance program for all ages,” Garcia said. “It’s a lot fun, energizing and an amazing way to meet new friends. My students love my classes and say they keep coming back because they like the personal experience and it does not feel like exercise to them although they walk out drenched!”
The class will start with a salsa, merengue warm-up. Garcia says the intensity will gradually increase with some Bollywood, Reggaeton, and Timba. If you feel one hour and a half is too much for you, that’s fine because breaks are encouraged. Once you’re ready, jump back into the action!
“They will lose 1,000 calories! It’s a non-stop 1 hour intense, high energy interval cardio dance class participants do at their own physical ability,” Garcia said.
Garcia led last year’s 80s themed Zumbathon and expects about 100 or so people of all ages and levels to have a healthy workout and loads of fun. July is National Parks and Recreation month and the city is celebrating Zumbathon because it is an event which exemplifies recreation and fitness.
“I feel greatly honored asked to do this for community,” Garcia said. “It’s all about making the community healthier and having fun. I expect from kids to grandparents benefiting from Zumba.”
All dancers are encouraged bring their own water bottles but there is a water fountain in the facility to fuel all the Zumba fun.
Street parking and a municipal lot is available across the street.Subscribe to Our Newsletter
