To Upzone or Not? The Ocean Terrace Debate

On July 8, the City of Miami Beach decided to defer consideration on the proposed ordinance regarding the highly controversial Ocean Terrace development until July 29. However, that didn’t stop more than a dozen people from speaking against the project at the commission meeting. The meeting also included some accusations that the mayor and commissioners were being influenced by David Custin, a lobbyist and political consultant who represents the developer.

City Presents New Bicycle Master Plan to North Beach Residents

On June 4, 2015, the City of Miami Beach Transportation Planner, Xavier Falconi, presented the new bicycle master plan to North Beach residents at the Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Panel. At the meeting, residents were able to hear firsthand about the plan and make suggestions. In addition to working on this plan, the City is finalizing a transportation master plan to improve overall transportation issues.

“These two plans are being worked on separately but on two parallel tracks,” said Falconi, who has worked for the department for seven years. “These two plans are essentially becoming one and we have gotten positive feedback.”
