Good things are finally happening for our beloved Bandshell District with the introduction of the proposed park plan. A community meeting to review the plan will take place Thursday at the North Shore Youth Center.

This Wednesday, July 21st from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. there will be a groundbreaking ceremony of the North Beach Oceanfront Center, UNIDAD Senior Center. This event will take place at the Bandshell Park, 7251 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach.

The City of Miami Beach is kicking off the fall session for the Leadership Academy. Get a fresh perspective on how to become more active in your community. The free, 15-week Miami Beach Neighborhood Leadership Academy (NLA) provides residents with the information and resources to become more knowledgeable members and participants in our diverse community.

This Friday the City of Miami Beach Parks and Recreation Department will bring the beautiful Hawaiian Islands to the North Shore Park and Youth Center. The “Loco Luau” will begin at 6 p.m. with 90 minutes of fun filled “Hawaiian Style” events.

Residents of North Beach have long known that this part of town is Miami Beach’s best kept secret. Before long, the rest of the world will be let in on the secret. The Altos Del Mar Sculpture Park has taken one more big step from dream to reality.

The planning board will be discussing the long awaited Town Center Code Amendments at Tuesday’s meeting, June 22nd, 2010. The item is time certain for 1:30 and is first on the agenda. This is a very important meeting for the future of North Beach. It is important for residents to show their support for the plan by attending.

Acting as both a buffer and bridge between the sand and the city, the Beachwalk has proved to be a welcome and increasingly popular addition to the neighborhood – bringing the beauty of the oceanfront to the residents.

The Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL) is now offering MiMo Tours of the architecture in North Beach on the 1st Saturday of every month. This is a great way to learn more about the recent placement of two MiMo Districts in North Beach on the National Registry of Historic Places. Enjoy this informative walking tour led by Jeff Donnelly from MDPL. Its a great way to experience the beautiful character of our neighborhoods and an opportunity to understand first hand why they deserve national recognition.

Thirty years after South Beach was awarded Historic District status, two North Beach districts have also received the national recognition. The Normandy Isle and North Shore Neighborhoods are placed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
