Sometimes it can be hard to find the motivation to get a good work out in. Between busy schedules at work, kids and family, we understand it’s not always easy to squeeze in the time for a sweat session. We won’t even begin to mention how expensive gym memberships and workout classes can be. However, experts say that in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, it’s recommended to get in three workouts a week.

Well lucky for you, North Beach offers some free and very affordable exercise classes. These convenient, and cost effective classes will make it just a little harder to find an excuse not to work out. Check out the classes we’ve rounded up below and pick your favorite. You can thank us later!

 

Water Aerobics

Where: Normandy Isle Pool & Park, 7030 Trouville Esplanade

When: Tuesdays & Thursdays at 2pm

Water aerobics have proven to relieve stress and tension, as muscles are loosened and more relaxed once submerged under water. This is also a great option for someone looking for a low-impact workout that can burn a good amount of calories.  The facility features two separate pools; a play pool at 0″-15″ depth with interactive water elements for children, and a main lap pool with 4 lanes which is aerated in the summer and heated in the winter. Yoga

Where: North Shore Open Space Park, Collins Avenue at 85th Street

When: Sundays at 10am

Get ready to stretch and restore! As the longest-standing free yoga class on the beach, these hatha-inspired yoga sessions are offered every week, and are suitable for all levels and ages. Children are welcome too! Instructor and North Beach resident Nicola has been teaching yoga for 8 years – her fun and challenging classes will work your posture and breathing. Bring a mat, a friend and a bottle of water. $5 – $10 suggested donation.

Boot Camp

Where: On the beach at 73rd Street, in front of the UNIDAD Center. Just follow the music!

When: Tuesdays & Thursdays at 9am (and two Saturdays a month – ask the instructor)

Open for all levels, including children and infants. Each class is customized to the participants’ needs. Although we can’t promise the class won’t be tough, you will see results with this full body workout! RSVP by text to (310) 999-3276 and arrive a few minutes early. Ask about their 1-minute body fat test and personal health and nutrition coaching.

Zumba

Where: North Shore Youth Center, 501 72nd Street

When: Mondays, Thursdays, & Fridays at 6:30pm, Saturday at 9:30am

Cost: $5

Looking for a fun, new and exciting workout? Give Zumba a try! You’ll dance your way into a good sweat with this cardio-intense class. Participants can burn between 500 and 1000 calories per class. Instructor Fernando Garcia has over 30 years experience – he even taught a class for the first lady herself, Michelle Obama, in 2014, alongside actor Mario Lopez! Dance styles include reggae, salsa, merengue and more. Suitable for all levels, just wear a pair of sneakers.

Tennis

Where: North Shore Youth Center, 501 72nd Street

When: Call 305.604.4080 to reserve your court!

Cost: $5/hour

Looking to brush up on your tennis skills? Grab your racquet, a buddy and reserve a court at North Shore Park. At just $5/hour, this cost effective sport is a great cardio workout that will work your agility and speed.
