Currently, this largely grassy area is not yet programmed by the City, but is used mainly for open recreation by families and those who enjoy natural beauty. In this quiet oasis, revelers enjoy the open space with views of the ocean and clear blue skies. The gentle topography provides a peaceful and almost meditative environment.

This two-acre grassy oceanfront square stretches east of Collins Avenue between 76th Street and 77th Street, just south of the private residences of Altos del Mar. Once a state-owned park, Altos del Mar Park was acquired by the City of Miami Beach in 2003.

Separating the park from the ocean is the beach trail, which extends for over a mile, starting from Allison Park and ending at North Shore Open Space Park. The trail weaves between sand dunes and gorgeous oceanfront property, making for a nice walk or exhilarating jog.

Stroll south of Altos del Mar Park and you’ll find the North Shore Library where you can rent a book to enjoy for a day at the beach. For those seeking a more thrilling adventure, TSK Miami has stationed their satellite location just east of the park near 76th Street beach, where you can rent a variety of watercraft from paddle boards to jet skis.

Recent News about Altos Del Mar Park

As of July 2014, the Miami Beach City Commission agreed to move forward with construction plans for the redesign for Altos de Mar Park. Classified as a “passive” park with some “active” elements, the area is planned to be kept as a quiet oasis for North Beach and programmed only for major holiday celebrations.

According to the City of Miami Beach Parks and Recreation director John Rebar, the budget for these improvements is $2.9M. The city held various workshops where residents were able to provide input regarding the overall design of the park.

In September 2015, the City of Miami Beach Parks and Recreation deputy director, Elizabeth Valera, advised that an architect and engineer have been hired to redesign elements of the park which include a new park entrance, new beach walkways, an office/storage building with public restrooms, a playground, sand volleyball courts, retainer/sitting walls, open sodded areas, landscape with irrigation, and lighting. Residents will soon be able to enjoy a greener and more beautiful Altos del Mar Park.
