Located in the Bandshell Commercial District of the North Shore neighborhood, this oceanfront park stretches east of Collins Ave, between 72nd and 73rd Street, and is one of the most actively programmed parks in North Beach. The park has created a sense of community among locals, bringing them together to sing, dance, dine, and more.

At its heart stands the iconic North Beach Bandshell, designed in 1961 by the architect Norman Giller. The striking sky blue and white Miami Modern, or MiMo-style structure, plays host to events such as world music concerts, movie screenings for kids, food truck festivals, and more.

In the park, the more athletic can opt for volleyball games adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean, while yoga enthusiasts can enjoy oceanfront classes and meditate to the sound of the surf. This park is also connected to the beach walk, which extends for over a mile, starting from Allison Park and ending at North Shore Open Space Park.

The North Shore Bandshell Park is also home to the UNIDAD Senior Center, offering seniors a range of activities and services including nutritious meals, employment training and placement, counseling, support groups, health information, nutrition/health screenings and assistance with immigration-related issues.

About the Bandshell

The Bandshell was very popular during the “Big Band’ era for concerts and dances but at the time was not designed to support the sophisticated lighting, electronic and sound equipment of today. Currently, it’s one of the few open air amphitheaters still remaining along the coast.

In September of 2011, the City of Miami Beach Capital Improvement Projects and Parks & Recreation Departments reopened the North Beach Bandshell to a warm reception. The Office of Capital Improvement Projects and the Parks and Recreation Department collaborated in the magnificent historic restoration of the MiMo-inspired outdoor amphitheater, valued at almost $1M. The project was completed $50,000 under budget.

The main scope of the work that was done to this beautiful outdoor amphitheater included a historic restoration of the facility with structural repairs, ADA improvements to the backstage area and restrooms, expansion of backstage facilities, installation of special acoustic plaster for enhanced outdoor audibility, new HVAC system, electrical system upgrades, theatrical lighting, stage extension, and accent lighting of the structure’s main architectural features.

The Florida Grand Opera has hosted free concerts that are open to the public and the TransAtlantic Festival has brought in many international acts such as Bombino and Chilean electro-stars Astro for their Florida debuts.

Every fourth Wednesday of the month at the North Shore Bandshell, the Miami Beach Food Truck and Music Fest brings together some of the city’s finer food trucks, including GastroPod, Ms. Cheezious, Sakaya Kitchen, and Mushaboom from 5 to 10 pm. Every second Thursday of the month is known as Dance Band Night with themed performances from international dance bands and dance classes from 7 – 10pm, which are free and open to the public. No matter which day you pass by, you’re bound to catch the happenings at this local hub.
